Regional Summit to Improve Access to Tuberculosis Services

Socios En Salud through the INCIDETB - LAC project, with the support of the TB Coalition of the Americas and the Stop TB Partnership’s Challenge Facility for Civil Society Round 10, held the “Regional Summit for Advocacy to Improve Access to TB Health Services in Latin America and the Caribbean” between December 7 and 9 in the city of Cartagena de Indias, Colombia.

The issues addressed by civil society representatives (Peru, Bolivia, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Paraguay, Panama, Honduras, Chile and Argentina) were defined through a process of identification and prioritization of needs according to the problem of each country. Likewise, the advocacy actions were planned according to a work plan that was defined during an individualized mentoring program carried out between June and July 2022.

During the regional summit, 4 thematic panels were proposed for the exchange of experiences and to generate a space for reflection on opportunities to articulate their advocacy actions for a greater regional scope:

In addition, participants reflected on the state of accountability and the fight against TB in the region ahead of the United Nations High Level Meeting on TB to be held in September 2023.

Important fact

After the presentations, it was decided to endorse the initiative to propose a “Call to Action Document to transform the response against Tuberculosis in the Americas” addressed to heads of state, the international community and donors. The document was signed by 17 people, participants of the event as a sign of agreement. View document online.
